The concept of "animus" in philosophy and psychology is a parallel concept to "anime", but refers to the male aspect of the female psyche. Jung saw the animus as a masculine archetype within the unconscious of women, just as "anime" describes the feminine aspect of a man's psyche. The animus represents the power, logic, assertiveness and logic in the female soul, and is an important part of the process of individuation, the process in which the person combines all aspects of his soul to create wholeness and inner harmony.
In an artistic work, the animus and the anima may be interpreted as symbols of balancing forces that exist in the human soul.
