Joshua's call to the tribes of Israel to inherit the land that God gave them is mentioned in the Book of Joshua, starting from chapter 13. In these chapters, Joshua is instructed by God to divide the land among the tribes of Israel after most of it has been conquered. In chapter 13, the Lord tells Joshua that although much of the land has been taken, there are still areas that need to be conquered. He commands Joshua to allocate the territories to the tribes so that each tribe can inherit its portion and settle in it. In these chapters, Joshua divides the land by lot among the tribes, as instructed by God through Moses. The text provides a detailed account of the division of the land among the tribes, including areas that were still under the control of the Canaanite peoples at that time. Joshua calls on each tribe to settle in their allotted inheritance and to conquer the remaining territories. For example, in Joshua 18:3, Joshua addresses the Israelites, saying: "So Joshua said to the Israelites: 'How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you?'" Here, Joshua rebukes the people for not fully conquering their inheritance and urges them to possess the land completely, as God had promised their forefathers.
